Description
The noble fir is native to the W USA: northwest California, Oregon and Washington (Cascade Range and parts of the Coast range).
In the wild it grows at an altitude of 60-2,700m and reaches 60m to a magnificent 90m where there is adequate spring moisture. The needles are bluish green above and glaucous white beneath, up-curved, 25-35mm long and 1.5mm wide, with rounded tip.
The seed cones are barrel shaped and narrowed at the top, 14-25x7-8cm,green, tinged with red when young, ripening to light grey-brown with orange bracts.
The tree grows well in sunny areas and prefers bare acidic mountain peat.
