Dad introduced this species from its Native China and often sent seed off his mature trees to renowned plantsman John Vertrees USA ( of Japanese Maple fame ). Acer pentaphyllum is a very rare and endangered maple species in the wild endemic to southwestern Sichuan in China, at altitudes of 2300–2900 metres. Acer pentaphyllum is a deciduous tree that grows with good vigour and the bamboo effect of its extraordinary foliage is beyond compare.
