In the British Isles the paw paw forms a large,deciduous shrub with obovate leaves up to 20cm long.The unusual,dark purplish,6-petalled flowers are borne in may to june as the leaves emerge.The curious fruits,which frequently formed on a plant that once grew in the SHHG,are edible when ripe.SE USA.One of the first American plants to be introduced by Peter Collinson in 1736.
