Description
Chilean lantern tree is an evergreen tree ( in Elaeocarpaceae ). Beautiful bright red lantern flowers in Spring en mass. Gondwana beauty endemic to Chile , ( from regions of Cautin to Palena ). It prefers a position near streams and very humid and shady places. Known to reach 6-8 metres and very upright habit. Preferring sheltered, moist well drained locations, this is not always an easy fit in gardens here. Greyish bark , matt dark green foliage lanceolate with toothed edges and acute apex. Fruit white and pubescent , leathery capsule with 3 to 5 valves.
