Very large, digitately compound, cabbage blue leaves . Foliage accentuated by the thick waxy layers on the leaves, help protecting them against severe frost . The leaves have 7-9, but sometimes up to 13 leaflets, from the end of each long stalk. The leaflets are up to 30 cm in length and can potentially reach 60 cm. The leaflets of some forms are more deeply lobed. New leaves are brighter green in a spring flush at the ends of branches.
