Description
Tree with long prickly branches cord-like weeping branches. Elegant tree growing well in shade but not liking drought.A tall tree to 50m tall, found in all parts of New Zealand except the interior of South Island.The crown is conical,becoming broader,with many hanging branchlets covered in foliage.The juvenile leaves are needles 4-6mm long,gradually changing to 2.5-3mm-long scale-like mature leaves.The seeds are deep blue to black,5-6mm long; aril red,either fleshy or dry.Grows successfully in temperate oceanic northern hemisphere situations.Hardiness zone 9.
