Description
Ilex aquifolium 'Variegata' (Variegated Holly)
Ilex aquifolium 'Variegata' is an elegant evergreen shrub or small tree with glossy green leaves edged in creamy yellow. It adds year-round interest and produces bright red berries in winter when pollinated by a male holly. It reaches 4–6 metres in height and 2–4 metres in width, making it ideal for ornamental hedging or as a focal point.
Best suited to Australia's cooler climates, it grows well in well-drained soils with partial to full sun.
Tip: Regular pruning keeps its shape and limits spread in areas like Tasmania, where holly can become invasive. The berries are attractive to birds but toxic to humans and pets.
