Description
Rhaphithamnus spinosus (Espino) is a unique, hardy shrub or small tree native to Chile, suited for Australian climates, especially coastal and temperate regions. It grows up to 3 meters tall, with small, leathery leaves and spiny branches. In spring and summer, it produces charming blue to violet flowers that attract pollinators, followed by small orange fruits. Rhaphithamnus spinosus prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, making it a resilient choice for low-maintenance gardens, hedges, or privacy screens. Drought-tolerant once established, it’s also able to withstand light frost.
