Description
Ulmus davidiana Nire Keyaki ... Introduced to Australia by Arnold Teese from his Japanese Travels very early on ,from visiting Bonsai Master Collections and some nurseries atop Tokyos skyscrapers .... This diminutive Elm is used in traditional Japanese Bonsai and goes by a mish mash of names although the one provided to my father we use until something better appears ... It makes an outstanding pot or rockery specimen and appears to have been bonsaied by a Master simply by getting older ... The deep fissured bark and miniature branching and diminutive leaves appear to have been tortured by decades of Bonsai , but it is simply its habit ... Somewhat intriguing in plant circles , Pere David makes reference to it but it is written about surprisingly little ... One of the most intriguing and beautiful dwarf cultivars ever assigned to gardening , a personal favourite ... Family: Ulmaceae....
