Description
A native of the Mediterranean region known commonly as ; chaste tree, chasteberry, Abraham's balm, lilac chastetree, or monk's pepper. An anaphrodisiac it is often claimed as, unfounded in my research hence name “Chaste Tree”. A deciduous shrub that can grow 2-4 metres tall in my experience here. It’s aromatic foliage and butterfly-attracting mid-summer upright spikes of white flowers are quite beautiful. Flowers emerge in late summer in cooler climates. Relatively hardy in good drainage and can tolerate some salt and brackish water.
